A Life Lived: Wayne Mottern studied to be an accountant, but was a pastor at heart

Sometimes, life doesn’t go as we planned, but as God plans. Wayne Mottern graduated from East Tennessee State University with a degree in accounting. He later worked for Texas Instruments, which took him to Texas, where he helped start a new TI plant and later worked for another company, Lone Star InfoSystems. Before he left Texas to come back to Tennessee, he became a full-time minister. Altogether, he spent 27 years in Texas.

In Texas, Mottern served faithfully as minister at Center Christian Church in Elgin, Texas, serving first as a Stephen minister, where he worked one-on-one with a new Christian or with persons experiencing a difficult time in life.

After returning to Tennessee, Mottern served as minister at Unicoi Christian Church and Limestone Cove Christian Church before retiring in 2021. His home church was Brick Christian Church in Watauga…
