Artificial intelligence singer hits the country charts; Tennessee’s top lawyer isn’t singing along

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Tennessee is no stranger to musicians. But the latest name climbing the Billboard country chart isn’t a singer at all.

Breaking Rust, an entirely artificial-intelligence–generated “artist,” reached the top of Billboard’s Country Digital Song Sales chart this week, igniting a debate across Nashville’s music industry.

Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, who has positioned the state as an early leader in AI oversight, told 6 News’ sister station, WKRN, he is hearing concerns from across the industry.

“I hear from the music community frequently,” Skrmetti said in an interview. “They are very, very concerned with training data being used. There are proposals out there to try to remedy this.”…
