Rutherford County, TN – The extended Thanksgiving weekend has kept Middle Tennessee roads busy, with traffic surging as families travel, shop, and gather. For emergency responders, that means giving up their own holiday time to keep others safe.
On Thanksgiving Day, Murfreesboro Fire Rescue Department units were dispatched to a two-vehicle crash on I-24 East near the I-840 interchange. Rescue 11 was first on the scene and confirmed that two people were trapped. Firefighters immediately began extrication efforts, successfully freeing both individuals. Crews provided patient care until Rutherford County Emergency Medical Services arrived to transport the victims. One patient was reported in critical condition.
The crash forced a temporary closure of I-24 East (toward Chattanooga) while emergency crews worked the scene.
