KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — If you notice more state troopers and law enforcement personnel on patrol Sunday, it is likely due to the “Tennessee Safe Thanksgiving Travel Challenge Initiative.”
The Tennessee Highway Patrol previously announced plans to increase patrols across the state Sunday for traffic safety. THP is teaming up with various law enforcement partners for the patrol and plans to have troopers every 20 miles on all interstates looking for “hazardous drivers.” It also plans to monitor secondary roads throughout the holiday season. They also increased patrols on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

“We need your cooperation to achieve our goal,” said THP Colonel Matt Perry. “I’m asking every single driver to commit to three things: Buckle up, slow down, and don’t drive distracted. Check your speed, put your phone away, and always ensure every passenger is properly restrained.”
