Questions continue after MTSU professor found dead near her Dekalb Co. home

DEKALB COUNTY, Tenn. — Three days after the body of a Middle Tennessee State University professor was found dead with gunshot wounds, questions continue to surround the case, and what led up to her death.

DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies discovered the body of Dr. Ashleigh McKinzie, 41, just beyond her home, according to multiple sources. As investigators work to determine what led to her death, students are reflecting on her dedication to combating domestic violence.

McKinzie devoted much of her academic career to researching family violence and supporting victims. She served as an adjuct professor in MTSU’s Department of Sociology and Anthropology for eight years…
