East Tennessee PBS awarded grant after federal funding cuts

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Following significant federal funding cuts to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting earlier this year, East Tennessee PBS has received a stabilization grant to help continue operations.

The Public Media Bridge Fund announced grants totaling $26 million for 74 organizations across the nation that operate 186 radio and television stations. These organizations collectively reach more than 30 million people.

Public Media Company, the nonprofit organization behind the philanthropic fund, said Tuesday that more than 115 stations were likely to close by mid-2026 without immediate aid.
