Country faces growing social worker shortage as Tennessee DCS pushes to recruit the next generation

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Among some of the state’s most vulnerable children, Tennessee leaders are searching for more people willing to step into one of the most demanding — and meaningful — careers in public service.

“It has to be in your heart to be a social worker and to work with kids in the situations that these case managers will face,” said Ashley Zarach with the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services.
