New programs to help repair, replace homes damaged by Helene

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — New programs from the United States Department of Agriculture are planned to help Tennesseans whose homes were damaged or destroyed by Hurricane Helene be repaired or rebuilt, Clinch-Powell RC&D said.

The programs are called the Single Family Housing Disaster Assistance Fund (DAF) Home Repair Grant Program and 502 Home Replacement Program, said Clinch-Powell RC&D, a designated packager for the programs.

Clinch-Powell said it will help people apply for grants or loans if they are in one of the following counties: Sevier, Claiborne, Cocke, Grainger, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Jefferson, Carter, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington.

Home Repair Program

People can only apply for the Single Family Housing DAF Home Repair Grants if they are over 18, own and occupy the home (and have ownership documents), have an income under a certain amount, are within a Rural Single Family Housing rural area, and their home was damaged directly or indirectly by Helene. People who have been forced into temporary housing can apply and are not required to occupy the owned property until a replacement house is installed…
