UT leads effort to bring endangered species back to Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – UT has received a grant to research and protect freshwater mussels in areas where human activity has negatively impacted their populations.

The project is part of a partnership with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF) to support higher-ed institutions focused on conserving endangered or at-risk species and habitat.

“This is a grant that I applied for,” said Dana Mills, a PhD student at UTK. “This is specifically one that is interested in endangered species and how to get the community involved in conservation of endangered species.”…
