Local educators react to proposed HS world language requirement cuts

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The Tennessee State Board of Education is still debating whether to cut high school foreign language requirements in half. Local education leaders have different views on the potential change.

Unicoi County Director of Schools John English said he sees it as a positive development.

“You know, I think now there’s a shift of just specializing for our students and what they’re interested in, and what their paths are and trying to make sure we train them and prepare them for that,” English told News Channel 11. “So, you know, I like the approach.”…
