It is common knowledge that donations to thrift shops surge at the end of the year as people clean out and try to take advantage of year-end charitable giving deductions for tax purposes.
Goodwill of Middle Tennessee, for example, just reported that from Dec. 26-31 the number of donations at Goodwill Donation Express Centers across Middle and West Tennessee rises by up to 40 percent compared to other days of the year.
