THP Confirms Trooper Hurt in Second New Year’s Eve Crash Near I‑24 Ramp

DAVIDSON COUNTY, TN – Just minutes after 10:00 p.m. on New Year’s Eve (12/31/2025), WGNS News was on the air with real‑time updates about a multi‑vehicle crash on eastbound I‑24 near the 63‑mile marker, close to the Davidson–Rutherford County line and Old Hickory Blvd. exit. Information was coming in through the TDOT’s SmartWay system.

All eastbound lanes of the interstate were closed and the New Year’s Eve traffic was in a gridlock condition.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol has now confirmed that one of its troopers was injured in a separate crash while responding to that original I‑24 incident. According to the agency, the trooper was headed toward the mile‑marker‑63 crash. The trooper was traveling along Old Hickory Boulevard near the I‑24 entrance ramp when another vehicle attempted to turn left onto the ramp, entering the trooper’s path.
