NASHVILLE, Tenn (WZTV) — A new Tennessee law now requires all bail bondsmen to be licensed by the state, placing oversight under the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance (TDCI). The law took effect January 1.
Under the new system, bail bondsmen must register with the TDCI’s Division of Regulatory Boards and receive a license through the newly created Board of Professional Bondsmen. Local courts will still decide which bondsmen can operate in their jurisdictions, but only after state licensing is complete.
