Change demanded over Tennessee license plates issued without driver’s license or insurance

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Calls are growing to close what some Tennesseans describe as a loophole that allows people without a driver’s license or insurance to obtain a license plate.

Under current Tennessee law, a person can register a vehicle without having a valid driver’s license or proof of insurance. That includes undocumented immigrants.

According to the state, acceptable forms of identification to register a vehicle and get a license plate include documents such as a check stub or work ID. Proof of residency can include utility bills or bank statements…
