Tennessee notifying 8,800 commercial drivers to prove citizenship, lawful residence

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Thousands of commercial truck drivers in Tennessee will soon receive notice requesting proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency.

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security said Thursday that approximately 8,800 of Tennessee’s 150,000 Commercial Drivers License holders will receive the notice in the mail.

Notified drivers must present proof of U.S. Citizenship or proof of Lawful Permanent Residency and the letter they received in person at one of Tennessee’s Full Service or Express Drivers Services Centers no later than April 6.
