East Tennessee woman on death row files lawsuit alleging execution method violates rights, religious beliefs

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – Christa Gail Pike, the only woman on death row in Tennessee, has filed a lawsuit against the state alleging lethal injection violates her rights and religious beliefs.

Pike was one of three people convicted in the 1995 torture and murder of Colleen Slemmer, often referred to as the “Job Corps Murder.” She faced prosecution alongside her boyfriend, Tiddell Shipp, and Shadolla Peterson.

She was convicted of hitting Slemmer on the head with a chunk of asphalt, killing her. Prosecutors said she kept a portion of the girl’s skull as a souvenir…
