‘I think they’re making a bad choice’: Smyrna Town Council votes in favor of regulating yard sales

SMYRNA, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Tuesday, Smyrna Town Council voted unanimously in favor of an ordinance limiting yard sales to only four per year per address.

“We’re not looking to require permits for yard sales or anything of that nature; it’s really just to limit the few folks that we have in town that have a yard sale every weekend for multiple days, and they’re really not a yard sale; they’re a business running out of a residential area,” said Smyrna Town Planner Kevin Rigsby during Tuesday’s meeting.

However, Smyrna resident, Darlene Martinson, told News 2 that she counts on hosting yard sales for extra income.

“I just think it’s crazy because times are hard, and everyone is pinching pennies, and a lot of people look for the yard sales to go to,” she explained…
