Palace Barber Shop nears a century of treating customers like family

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Murfreesboro’s square, a palace has been welcoming in visitors for over 95 years, but it’s not the kind of palace you think.

The Palace Barber Shop opened in the basement of the Commerce-Union Bank in 1928. In 1993, The Palace moved to 110 N Church Street, where they’ve been operating for more than 65 years. Co-owners Randall Hall and Irene Walker have been carrying on a legacy.

“It’s not for everybody,” Hall said. “Gosh, I’ve done it for so long — I’ve never done anything else.”

Hall and Walker purchased the 5,200-square-foot shop from Fred Shumante. Hall’s dream since he was 12 years old was to become a barber. He grew up in Smyrna and worked as a barber for only a year before he got drafted into the Army…
