Historic cabin to be removed from Lebanon town square

WILSON COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Lebanon’s historic town square will undergo a renovation Monday that includes the removal of the Neddy Jacobs cabin.

The cabin sits near the roundabout off the historic square in a parking lot. Construction is set to begin Monday on the northwest quadrant park, which will be home to a new green space, a concert staging area and seating.

The Lebanon City Council approved the new development in December.

The Neddy Jacobs cabin has been in place since Lebanon was chosen as the Wilson County seat in 1801. When the town was founded and lots were sold on 1802, the Jacobs family was the only one living in the cabin near the spring from which the town was centered, according to the cabin’s historical marker.

Edward (Neddy) Jacobs and his Lumbee Indian wife, Layula, moved to Tennessee from North Carolina. After Jacobs’ death, Layula moved west with some Cherokee who passed through on the Trail of Tears.
