Judge denies new trial for man convicted in 1988 Franklin murder

FRANKLIN, Tenn. (WSMV) – A judge has ruled that a new trial will not be granted for a man convicted of murdering a Franklin woman in 1988, according to Williamson County District Attorney Stacey Edmonson.

Edmonson said Judge David Veile ruled on Jan. 20 that James “Pennyhead” Taylor will not be granted a new trial in the 38-year-old murder case of 89-year-old Francis Schmidt.

Taylor was convicted of first-degree murder for Schmidt’s death in 1988. He received a life sentence, spent more than 30 years in prison for the crime and was later released on early parole…
