Tennessee bill would require GPS monitoring for people accused of certain crimes

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Tennessee lawmakers are pushing to require GPS monitoring for certain accused criminals who make bail, unless a judge finds they are not a threat to the victim or public safety.

The legislation by Rep. G.A. Hardaway, D-Memphis, and Sen. Raumesh Akbari, D-Memphis, was introduced last year and has returned as HB 2296/SB 2665.

Under the Debbie and Marie Domestic Violence Protection Act, Tennessee law already requires GPS monitoring in certain domestic violence cases before a defendant can be released on bond…
