RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — On Thursday, Rutherford County Schools will consider whether to move forward with buying some of their own school buses.
The proposal comes about a week after one of their largest contractors lost its insurance coverage because of a missed payment, which affected 39 bus routes.
Dagmar VanSlyke, who is a working RCS parent, says her Smyrna High School junior hasn’t had reliable school bus transportation for more than a week.

“Monday, I told him to take an Uber there, then the bus brought him back, but it’s like a $10 trip every time,” VanSlyke said. “Tuesday, he stayed home. Wednesday, a friend of mine took him. Thursday, he stayed home. Friday he went back to school. It’s like this back and forth. It’s ridiculous. He needs an education.”…
