Murfreesboro Buddhist monk joins ‘Walk for Peace’ in DC for ‘good of many’

The recent “Walk for Peace” in Washington, D.C., included Khamko Xayavong, head monk at the Laotian Buddhist Temple in Murfreesboro.

The event with Vietnames, Thai, Lao and international monastic communities began Oct. 26 in Fort Worth, Texas, before covering 2,300 miles by Feb. 12 to reach the nation’s capital, Xayavong told The Daily News Journal Feb. 19 at after returning back to the Temple on Old Nashville Highway near the overpass of Interstate 840.

Xayavong, who serves a congregation of about 500 worshippers in the Murfreesboro area, participated in the walk for two days starting in Maryland before reaching Washington…
