Rutherford Co. library director gets ‘First Amendment Hero’ praise on children’s LGBTQIA books

The Spine Bookshop named Rutherford County Library System Director Luanne James as a “First Amendment Hero,” a March 23 news release announced.

The recognition from the Smyrna business owned by Lindsay Schultz follows a recent decision by James to retain access to LGBTQIA books for teens and younger children, while going against a recent library board vote to move the books to the adult section.

James recently announced March 18 to the board of directors that she refuses to comply with a March 16 majority directive to move 132 children’s LGBTQIA books to adult sections of libraries, according to public records obtained by The Daily News Journal…
