‘Poplar’ wildfire spreads, burns hundreds of acres at TN/NC line

MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C (WJHL) – A wildfire, now known as the “Poplar Fire,” is burning across hundreds of acres at the Tennessee-North Carolina border, causing widespread smoke.

The fire reportedly started Monday, March 23 at 4 p.m., according to the Poplar Fire Public Information Officer, Allyson Pokrzywinski.

Since it was first reported, the fire has burned more than 343 acres of land, impacting the Appalachian Ranger District in the Pisgah National Forest and forcing roads to be shut down so crews can work to contain the fire…
