Rutherford County Wins Big in New $58 Billion State Budget

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WGNS)- The Tennessee General Assembly officially passed the state’s $58 billion budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year Thursday.

This spending plan brings a massive win to North Rutherford County with an $83 million allocation for the Department of the Military. That money is designated for the construction of a brand-new Army Aviation Support Facility located at the Volunteer Training Site in Smyrna.

Public education is also a major focus in this year’s budget. Lawmakers approved $339 million for schools across the state, which includes raising the starting teacher salary to $50,000. For local families, the state is also doubling the available Education Freedom Scholarships to serve a total of 35,000 students statewide…
