TN audit shows Rutherford with $17M revenues above costs when 16% tax hike adopted

The Rutherford County Commission adopted a 16% property tax hike in June 2023 soon before ending the fiscal year with revenues exceeding expenditures by $17 million, state records show.

The county government and school operation costs closed out the 2023 fiscal year by June 30 with $897 million in revenues and $880 million in expenditures, according to the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury’s Rutherford County Annual Comprehensive Financial Report 2025.
