HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WPDE) — As temperatures rise, so do the risks of places as welcoming as a playground. Even when it’s below 100 degrees outside, surface temperatures can be well into the triple digits.
ABC 15 visited a playground in Conway on Friday and recorded multiple surface temperatures between 130 and 150 degrees Fahrenheit.
According to the National Institute of Standards and Technology, humans begin to feel pain when their skin temperature reaches 111 degrees, can get a first-degree burn at 118, a second-degree burn at 131, and at 162 degrees, skin can be instantly destroyed…
