LORIS, S.C. (WBTW) — After seeing an increased need in the community, a Loris church is reviving its food pantry after six years.
Before becoming the secretary for Loris Methodist Church, Amy Palomares worked as a local school teacher and saw the impact of food insecurity firsthand. Then, in November, SNAP benefits were frozen, which created a bigger concern.
“I know from working with the hospice nurse and hospice CNAs and social workers, the elderly get very limited [benefits],” Palomares said. “And I know working with schools in the past that they get very limited. And you’re fixing to freeze it.”…
