Rare extreme heat warning for Horry County

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) –Mild and muggy mornings have become the norm for us, and this morning is no different.

We did have a weak cold front approaching, but it’s now expected to stall across the viewing area through the day. Unfortunately, it won’t have much of an impact on our temperatures or humidity. We’ll still be running above average, and it will remain extremely uncomfortable.

In fact, an Extreme Heat Warning is in effect for Horry County. This is fairly rare and typically only happens once or twice during the summer. The last time Horry County was under an Extreme Heat Warning was on July 26, 2025. This warning is issued when the heat index is expected to exceed 110 degrees during the afternoon.
