‘Larger than life’: Former NYPD detective remembered after deadly Horry County motorcycle crash

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) – A former New York City homicide detective who responded to the Sept. 11 attacks, solved many cases, and later continued serving the Grand Strand is being remembered as a devoted family man, dependable friend, and “larger than life” presence.

57-year-old Denis Broderick died at about 2:45 a.m. Sunday at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center from injuries he suffered in a motorcycle crash, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
