Surfside Beach town council approves new payment processing service that aims to reduce risk of fraud

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Surfside Beach Town Council approved a payment processing service on Tuesday to enhance transaction security following a cyber incident that diverted a $545,000 contractor payment.

The agreement with Strategic Payment Services shifts liability for fraudulent transactions to the company and comes at no additional cost to the town, as the service is offered through an existing town contract.
