MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW)— A Greek bistro is serving up delectable entrées and desserts in Market Common. Welcome to Salty Sugar Greek Bistro, which opened its doors in mid-June. Co-owner Anastasia Daskalis wanted to create a Greek restaurant that served all her childhood favorites and more.
Having lived in Greece and gained experience in the restaurant business, Daskalis wanted to bring a taste of her homeland to the Grand Strand. The name Salty Sugar was chosen to let customers know they could find both savory and sweet options here. Even the evil eye in the restaurant’s logo was intentionally selected, reflecting a traditional Greek symbol of protection.
Since this restaurant is their baby, they treat it as such. “When babies are born, we put a little one on there on their clothing. And it keeps the evil away… keeps the evil spirits away. It’s for good luck,” said Daskalis…
