Surfside Beach Town Council rejects 3D model of new pier

SURFSIDE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Surfside Beach Town Council voted 5-2 Tuesday night against a proposed 3D model of the new pier.

The model would have been used for warranty claims and maintenance issues and would have been created using drone photography and thousands of photos.

Zane Peterson of Collins Engineering also told the council there he did not have a big update on the pier project. He said the contractor is in disagreement with Collins Engineering on what is considered “substantially complete,” like the handrails and floor leveling.

He said the contractor thinks the items are up to code but that when Collins Engineering looked at the pier it did not meet its standard of substantial completion. He added they would not pay the contractor until the items met its substantial completion standard.

Councilman Shawn Fallon called the multiple delays in the completion of the pier embarrassing.

“From them not fixing things, we tell them ABC, fix it,” Fallon said. “They come back and don’t fix it. How long is this town going to allow this to keep going on.”
