Reopening date unclear for Myrtle Beach State Park pier after December nor’easter

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — No reopening date has been announced for the Myrtle Beach State Park pier after a nor’easter rolled through the Grand Strand on Dec. 17.

Grand Strand hit hard by storm that produced tornado in Socastee area; Conway now at OPCON 1

Troy Crider, a park manager, provided News13 with the following statement on Thursday:

In short, the pier was temporarily closed due to repair work to the damage we sustained from Hurricane Ian. Work was completed and we were preparing to reopen the entirety of the pier the week of December 18th. Unfortunately, the Nor’easter that impacted the Grand Strand on December 17th, 2023 damaged additional support piles. We’re currently working with experts to determine the best path forward. When we know more, we will share updates on the website.”
