Suspect in Longs Food Lion robbery arrested in North Myrtle Beach, report says

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A man suspected of robbing a Longs Food Lion on Saturday was arrested the same day after a brief foot chase in North Myrtle Beach, according to an incident report obtained by News13.

Paul Steffon Curtis, 32, was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center at about 12:05 a.m. on Sunday. Online jail records show he faces charges of kidnapping, attempted armed robbery, disobeying a police officer, shoplifting and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.

Just before 11 p.m. on Saturday, North Myrtle Beach police received information about a wanted suspect who was possibly within city limits, according to the report. The suspect, Curtis, was wanted by North Myrtle Beach police on shoplifting and narcotics charges.

An officer noticed a vehicle matching Curtis’ vehicle’s description and saw him pull into the parking lot of a Circle K, the report said. When Curtis left the store, the officer held him at gunpoint and told him not to move.

Curtis allegedly didn’t obey, giving the officer the illusion that he was going to run, according to the report. Curtis then ran from the officer across Old Highway 17 toward the wood line of Sunset Harbor.
