Horry County set to have 3 new fire stations completed in April

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Horry County Fire Rescue expects to open three new fire stations this spring, Chief Joey Tanner said in a video posted on the department’s Facebook page.

Tanner said work is “moving along nicely” on Station 4 in Forestbrook, Station 12 in the Nixonville-Wampee area and Station 14 in the Shell area as the department looks to have the new facilities completed sometime in April.

The county broke ground on Stations 12 and 14 in November 2022 and on Station 4 in December 2022 . At the time, officials placed the price tag at $2.5 million.

Horry County Fire is coming off yet another record year for the number of calls handled in 2023. The department handled 79,238 calls in 2023, up from 76,925 in 2022.

As HCFR heads into 2024, Tanner said he is “excited to see the progress of construction on the three new fire stations” and to work with a new 50-member class of recruits, who started training last week.
