Nearly 340,000 more women than men registered to vote in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Heading into South Carolina’s February presidential primaries, statistics show there are roughly 168,000 fewer people registered to vote than at the start of 2023.

Overall, the state now has 3.25 million registered voters, according to the most recent data from the South Carolina Election Commission, and women outnumber men by nearly 340,000, or 1.8 million to 1.45 million.

In fact, more women than men are registered to vote in every county in the state. The difference in Horry County is more than 22,000; nearly 140,000 of the county’s 257,300 registered voters are women.

The state has about 793,500 Black voters registered, roughly 24% percent of the total number of voters on the state’s rolls, and once again women outnumber the men; there are roughly 476,000 Black women and 317,000 Black men registered in the state.

Among the 2.3 million white voters registered in the state, about 1.23 million are women and slightly more than 1 million are men, the statistics show.
