HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — Workers across Horry County were up early on Saturday to ready polling sites for South Carolina’s first in the nation Democratic primary presidential race.
They began setting up around 6 a.m. on Saturday, after three early voting sites didn’t see much activity ahead of primary day, said Sandy Martin, the county’s director of registration and elections.
However, Martin says she expects voting to maintain steady throughout the day.
She says luckily all precincts were staffed with 3 or more poll workers.
She adds with presidential primaries being on a Saturday this year, it was hard to find workers.
“We’re always busy before an election because we have to get all the supplies ready, we have to get all the equipment ready, we have to get it delivered,” Martin says.
The Democratic candidates are incumbent president, Joe Biden, Dean Phillips, and Marianne Williamson.
One voter says she’s voting for President Biden.
Horry County resident, Ella Chandler says, “I think he’s done a very good job on the economy and the country and taking care of us and foreign policy.”
