Coastal Grand Mall to bar unattended youth on Friday, Saturday nights starting Feb. 23

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — The Coastal Grand Mall will soon require underage visitors to be chaperoned on Friday and Saturday nights in a move officials said was prompted by security concerns.

“Coastal Grand strives to remain a center of commerce in the community that brings quality stores and shoppers together,” general manager Katrena White said in a news release. “The implementation of this policy is not in response to any specific incident. Rather, it is something we’ve been considering for some time now.”

Beginning Feb. 23, anyone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian 21 or older from 4 p.m. through closing. Security will monitor entrances starting at 4 p.m.

Mall officials said youth should bring identification as proof of age will be required. White said the curfew comes after input from from merchants and community members.

“Through feedback from our community, including shoppers and retailers that have voiced concern about inappropriate behavior, we have designed a policy that will allow us to address unsupervised youth issues and provide all our shoppers with a pleasant experience,” White said.
