Man charged in deadly Socastee bar shooting released to home detention

SOCASTEE, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach man charged in a deadly Socastee bar shooting in October has been released from jail to home detention, online records show.

Kvon Lawhorn, 24, is charged in the shooting outside of Barfield’s Bar & Grille on Oct. 18. He recently had his charge downgraded from murder to involuntary manslaughter.

Starquan Washington, 23, of Longs, was killed in the shooting, according to the Horry County Coroner’s Office.

Judge Mark Harris made the decision to lessen the charge on Jan. 11. 15th Circuit Solicitor Jimmy Richardson told News13 that Harris lessened the charge because he thinks the shooting was accidental.

Additional charges including attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime remain, the solicitor’s office said.
