Myrtle Beach man caught smuggling contraband into state prison, authorities say

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A Myrtle Beach was caught this week smuggling drugs and other contraband into a South Carolina prison, corrections officials said.

Nasidd Zavion Vereen, 22, is accused of throwing two duffel bags filled with contraband over a fence at the Wateree River Correctional Institution in Sumter County on Monday, officials said. The bags were filled with methamphetamine, marijuana, Oxycodone, vape pens, cellphones, vodka, lighters, knives, tobacco and other items.

A corrections officer responding to a fencing alarm saw Vereen in the area, according to warrants released by the Department of Corrections

Vereen is charged with trafficking meth, providing prisoners with contraband, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of narcotics and criminal conspiracy.
