HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) — The work site of a Myrtle Beach-based pool contractor was swimming in debris, exposed solid waste and a mysterious blue substance — all of which put it on the wrong side of state environmental laws, a recently filed lawsuit alleges.
Active Shotcrete and Plaster have ignored demands by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control to clean up its 319 Reindeer Moss Court site for nearly a year, the lawsuit states.
A DHEC consent order details what led to the court action. The agency received a complaint on March 30, 2022, about unpermitted dumping and covering of solid waste remnants. It was accompanied by video footage “showing individuals dumping 55-gallon drum of blue sludge onto the ground.”
A year later, Horry County officials responded to the area for a fire. Two piles of what turned out to be muriatic acid bottles, old bags of plaster, paint cans and other waste items were burning when crews arrived, the consent order said.
Last August, DHECk ordered Active Shortcrete to clean up the property and pay a $6,000 fine, according to the lawsuit. The company has not complied as of Jan. 16.
