Major gas line struck near Conway, some evacuated, Horry County Fire Rescue says

HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (WBTW) –A major gas line was struck on University Boulevard causing several buildings within a half-mile radius to be evacuated, according to Horry County Fire Rescue.

Fire officials were dispatched to the gas leak at about 5:40 p.m. For those evacuated, shelter recommendations were in line as a precautionary measure, HCFR said.

The nearby railroad has stopped traffic for the immediate duration and there are no injuries reported, HCFR said.

Utility crews are working to mitigate the hazard and there is no threat to the public. Lanes of traffic in the immediate area will be impacted for an unspecified amount of time, HCFR said.

The City of Conway Fire Department and Coastal Carolina University public safety are assisting.
