Person detained in standoff with Myrtle Beach police on South Ocean Boulevard

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — One person has been detained after a standoff with Myrtle Beach police Tuesday afternoon in the area of the Palmetto Vista condos on South Ocean Boulevard, police said.

Myrtle Beach police Cpl. Chris Starling confirmed that officers used a type of smoke canister to get the person to come up. Smoke was seen coming out of one of the condo units, and members of the SWAT team also appeared to be wearing gas masks.

Authorities also had police K-9s at the scene, and there were at least eight Myrtle Beach police vehicles and an ambulance in the area. Officers told pedestrians and vehicles to steer clear of the area.

Earlier, a News13 photographer took multiple photos of officers in the area, including some with their guns drawn. The condos are in the 2600 block of S. Ocean Boulevard.
