‘If I could save one child, it’s worth it’: Mom who lost son to fentanyl poisoning speaks out at drug awareness event

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. (WECT) – Fentanyl deaths are on the rise in North Carolina. More than 3,000 people died from the drug last year. Angela Hughes wants to change that. She organized a drug awareness event in Ocean Isle Beach on June 29, bringing together other parents who have lost their children along with nonprofits and staff from the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
