Murrells Inlet feels first impacts of Debby

MURRELLS INLET (WBTW) — Murrells Inlet felt its first impacts of Tropical Storm Debby on Tuesday.

Areas along Wachesaw and Causey roads saw flooding after morning showers passed, but that didn’t stop residents from driving through it.

Along the Marshwalk, parking lots were flooded as well. Restaurants like the Claw House and Dead Dog Saloon were closed, making the area less busy than a usual summer Tuesday.

Murrells Inlet resident Hayden Broz said he and his family were preparing for the storm but had some worries.

“Mostly, you know, flooding,” Broz said. “We have a rental the second row from the beach, and we don’t want to have to go down there and replace stuff. It gets real expensive real quick with salt water.”

Many may remember the “ Ornament of the Inlet ” sailboat that washed up during Hurricane Ian in 2022 after an anchor got loose and remained stuck until it was removed in May. Now, it’s owner, Asher Robinson, has another sailboat anchored in the Inlet ahead of Debby.

He said Tuesday that he’s taking measures to make sure his second sailboat doesn’t end up like the first one.
