Conway residents still dealing with river flooding after Debby

CONWAY, S.C. (WBTW) — Waccamaw River flooding caused by Tropical Storm Debby forced many Conway residents to move their cars, call out of work, temporarily move or a combination of all three.

The entrances to Pitch Landing Road and Lees Landing Circle are currently blocked off by police cars.

People who live in the area moved their cars away from the flooding and have either been stuck inside their homes, use a rowboat to get to and from the main roads, or if they’re lucky enough, have a higher car that can get them through the streets.

Some families trying to get to Conway’s Riverfront Park had to turn around after realizing how bad the flooding was. Although the river level is slowly falling, it’s still at major flood stage and will remain that way until about Friday.

The Stonebraker family is from Aynor and came to check out the flooding for themselves.

“We come about every week just to walk our dogs in the park over there and we saw online that it has flooded down here,” Diana Stonebraker said. “We didn’t bring the dogs today, so we just came to see how high the water is and take pictures.”
