Longs residents relieved as post office fully reopens

LONGS, S.C. (WBTW) — The Longs post office is fully back in business after a 2021 fire, and residents in the area are relieved.

The U.S. Post Office on Wheels, a mobile postal service unit, is still on the property, but Longs residents are happy to be using the building again three years after the fire.

Because the post office is a federal building, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) is leading the fire investigation. News13 reached out to the ATF for updates on that investigation, though we haven’t heard back.

Since 2021, Longs residents received their mail through door delivery or picked it up at the mobile unit and P.O. boxes outside the post office, or at the North Myrtle Beach post office on 6th Avenue South.

One Longs resident said some of these procedures, and the wait for the post office’s reopening, were frustrating at times. But she’s relieved to have the post office back.

“It’s wonderful,” she said. “It has been such a long time and such an inconvenience. It’s just so nice to come here, and the door opens, and there’s people in there.”
