South Carolina beach rules set to change after Labor Day

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Beach rules across the Grand Strand are set to change Tuesday.

The city of Myrtle Beach said beginning on Tuesday, you are able to have your dogs on the beach, but they must be on a leash. You are also able to have dogs and bicycles on the boardwalk.

Another change in these rules is that you will now be able to use tents and canopies up to 12 feet in addition to umbrellas, but they must be 10 feet behind the umbrella line.

The splash pad at Futrell Park will be turned off until Memorial Day.

If you are on a kayak or a surf board, you will no longer have to stay in certain areas during certain times.

The same rules apply for North Myrtle Beach. In addition, surf boards and skim boards will no longer have designated areas and are allowed to be used at any point during the day.

While Surfside Beach does have similar rules, its rules will not change until Sept. 15.

So, next Friday, dogs are allowed on the beach at any time, umbrellas and tents must be 10 feet to the rear of lifeguard stands and surfing is not allowed within 300 feet of the pier, but you can surf anywhere else from sunrise to sunset.
